Try hand sanitizer to dissolve the dried paint on the brushes. It works like magic
CATASTROPHIC NEWS!!! Unfortunately, this video is now obsolete! Winsor has changed the formula for this product to make it “non-toxic”, actually adding soap while removing the “and restorer” from the label description. Predictably, the new “formula” doesn’t work at all like the old product. I wasted two hours trying to clean brushes with this and it’s so useless that I gave up and threw it in the trashcan. Thankfully, I had some of the old “cleaner and restorer” left because the new stuff actually made some bristles flare, so I was able to saved the brush. I’ve since called every supplier I can think of looking for the old version with no luck, it’s been removed from the shelves and replaced by a shockingly inferior product. RIP Winsor Brush Cleaner and Restorer, it will be sorely missed 😢!
hey just thought i might add a tip for you all to try. try using a wire brush to help remove the dried paint after you've soaked it in thinners.
Oh wow this stuff works great! I had no idea. I normally use liquid fabric softener on my dried on acrylics on my brushes. Soak them for 12-24 hours or so. And then clean with my pallet knife in the same fashion you're using here. Thanks for sharing!
On natural bristles only, I have used similar products and cleaners. Instead of the palet knife, I used a small steel bristle brush to separate and remove paint. I’m very old school in that I make things last till it can’t be used at all anymore.
This is why we love your videos. You are here for us. Thank you
🦊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I n my art class we the Awesome brand all purpose cleaner from the Dollar Tree store. It works just like you showed and costs only $1.25.
I made a linseed/beeswax paste and use that to shape my brushes after washing.
Thank you for this video I use rubbing alcohol but never thought to scrape off the excess with a pallet knife. Thanks again❤
Just hit me, I wonder how a mustache comb would work for straightening and cleaning
Soaking a brush in Turpinoid Natural will also remove most dried paint. It has a pleasant smell but may not be as safe as they claim. Also a good method for reshaping synthetic brushes is to dip them in very hot water and then reshape with a cloth and wrap them up until they dry. Be careful not to burn yourself as the water needs to be boiling hot.
Thank you for sharing ❤
Chelsea makes a really good product that uses lavender. All natural without all the harsh chemicals. And works really well
Hey Kevin there is a product I switched to called Bristle Magic (No harsh chemicals, natural ingredients) I soak the brushes after a painting session then soak in baby oil and wrap with a shop towel overnight. They are as good as new. For what you are cleaning Windsor and Newton is the best. 🙂
Please, I wish we learned how to draw the sea, water, or any of its conditions easily. The hardest thing for me is drawing water.
Give us rules for water that will make us draw easily and realistically, please😭😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏🙏
I use the Masters brush cleaner, Dawn Platinum too. After I dry them with shop paper towels, I use a fine tooth comb and comb them with a tiny bit of linseed oil.
Murphys oil soap works good too soak them overnight
Thank you! I haven't painted in a while and was thinking I would have to buy new brushes. I will try this first. <3
Hi Kevin, I clean all my brushes with soap and water and have reshaped them like this with a paper towel for years now. My brushes are old and still in great condition. 💕 Also, If I have dried paint on a brush OR palette, 🎨I use "Easy Off Oven Cleaner". It only takes a minute or so for the all the paint to dissolve. (Do this outdoors). Then clean with soap and water, and reshape the brush if, or as needed. Like I said, I have done this for years. It really works. People say you can not do this with natural bristles, but I a living proof you can. I have videos on it. Using this method you do not have to scrape the bristles with a palette knife which weakens them. Give it a try. I think you will be impressed. 🌹🤗
Good Video and tips. I use Murphy"s oil soap. works great!
Soak in Murphys oil. Suspend the brush and it cleans…
Warm water mixing with vinager clean bruhes, soap them very well , that is a recipe I learn a few times ago. To me it works.
Thank so much! Good to learn new things.
I’ve used this brush cleaner and it does work very well! Thanks for the additional tips. What is your procedure for normal cleaning of your brushes? Thank you
wow, long time , no see
Thank you Kevin! I love your brush line. I have had good luck with Bristle Magic and the Masters Brush Cleaner tub.
The masters Brush Cleaner and preserver also works quite well for just cleaning the brushes and keeping them looking like brand new
Thanks for the tips Kevin. Hand sanitiser works well and isn't harmful to your skin.
Per another video I watched a couple of years ago, I spray oven cleaner (like Easy-Off) into a Ziploc bag and put my brushes inside. Work the cleaner into the bristles (through the bag, don't touch the oven cleaner and try not to get too much on the ferrules). After about 10 minutes, you can rinse them off, reform them and wrap in paper towels. Leave them to dry and they're as good as new. Definitely wear rubber gloves though, you don't want to get the oven cleaner on your hands.
Thank you so much for the brush cleaning tip kathy

Hi Kevin. I’ve heard that Murphy’s oil soap can work to. Have you heard of this?
Hi Kevin. Thank you for the good advise. Comes in handy.
Use a big blob of hand sanitizer and keep rubbing the brush back and forth in the hand sanitizer until it gets clean, renewing the hand sanitizer as needed. The brush comes out clean and soft as can be. I used it on my hands then decided to try it on my brushes that were ruined and voila it worked!! So cheap too
