Viktor Gerasimenko from the National Academy of Sciences in Ukraine visits Maths@Surrey
Viktor Gerasimenko, a Professor at the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences in Kyiv, Ukraine, is visiting Maths@Surrey for a month. His host for the visit is Cesare Tronci. Viktor and Cesare received a rebuild-Ukraine INI grant to visit the School of Maths and Physics. The visit is split into two parts: the first was 24 Sept to 14 October and the second part is 4 to 24 November. He is an expert in kinetic theory and the picture below of Viktor and Cesare displays the quantum-classical Liouville equation (aka Aleksandrov-Gerasimenko equation) on the blackboard. This equation is for the description of mixed quantum-classical systems, which Viktor worked on during his PhD thesis completed in 1981.
